Cookie policy

The short version
We do not use cookies for advertising, analytics or tracking. We do not use cookies to identify you, and we do not have an analytics product of any kind installed. The only thing this site stores on your device is a single setting recording that you have read our cookie notice.
Because we store nothing that needs your permission, we do not ask for consent. A consent banner offering to switch off trackers we do not have would be theatre.

1. What we store
One thing, and it is not a cookie — it is a browser storage entry:
| Name | What it is | How long |
|---|---|---|
payerewind.notice.seen |
The value 1, recording that you dismissed our cookie notice so we
do not show it every time. It contains nothing about you. |
Until you clear your browser storage |
That is the entire list. There is no identifier, no session, no analytics and no advertising storage.
2. What our host sets
Our sites are served by Cloudflare, which may set a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep the service secure — for example to distinguish real visitors from automated traffic. These are security measures, not tracking, and they are required for the site to work safely.
Our internal admin console additionally uses a Cloudflare authentication cookie so that staff can sign in. It is not set on the public site.
3. Fonts
The pages on this website currently request their typefaces from Google Fonts. That does not set a cookie, but it does mean Google receives your IP address when the page loads. We intend to serve the fonts from our own domain and remove that request.
Rewind itself does not do this. It uses fonts already on your device, which is part of how it works with no internet connection at all.
4. Rewind itself
Rewind sets no cookies and stores nothing. Your figures live in the page's memory while you are using it and are gone when you close it. Nothing is written to your device and nothing is transmitted.
The one exception is the optional feature that reads figures out of a PDF or an image. That downloads text-recognition software to your device the first time you use it, and your browser may cache that software so it does not have to download it again. Your document is not uploaded — see the privacy notice.
5. Checking for yourself
You do not have to believe this page. In most browsers, press F12 to open developer
tools, then look under Application or Storage. You will see the
payerewind.notice.seen entry and Cloudflare's security cookies, and nothing
else belonging to us.
For Rewind, the stronger test is the one we recommend anyway: save the page, disconnect from the internet, and use it. It works, because there is nothing to send.
6. Clearing it
You can delete cookies and site storage at any time through your browser's settings, usually under privacy or site data. Clearing ours costs you nothing — you will simply see the cookie notice again. Browsers also let you block cookies entirely; this site works with them blocked.
7. Why we do not ask consent
The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require consent before storing information on your device, or reading information from it, unless that storage is strictly necessary for a service you asked for.
We store nothing that falls outside that exemption. Remembering that you dismissed a notice is strictly necessary to honour the dismissal, and Cloudflare's security cookies are necessary to serve the site safely. There is nothing optional to consent to.
If we ever add analytics or anything else non-essential, we will ask first, refusing will be as easy as agreeing, and nothing will load or be stored until you have chosen.
